I'm Ian Fletcher, and these are my books.
Okay, the last one is more of a booklet, and I'm not a conservative -- I work with both sides equally and have readers on both ends of the political spectrum. Anyway, I am one of America's foremost experts on the problems of free trade and the promise of industrial policy. I predicted the demise of the former as early as 2007.
I was Senior Economist for the Coalition for a Prosperous America (CPA) from 2010 to 2012 and am currently a member of its Advisory Board. (CPA is a nationwide grass-roots organization dedicated to fixing America’s trade policies and comprising representatives from business, agriculture, and labor. It's the only organization that represents exclusively American manufacturers, not the multinationals, and family farmers rather than Big Ag.)
Prior to my time at CPA, I was a Research Fellow at the U.S. Business and Industry Council, an economist in private practice, and an IT consultant. I regularly participate in economic forums, discussions and debates, and have been published in numerous magazines and newspapers.
My latest book, written with Marc Fasteau and entitled Industrial Policy for the United States: Winning the Competition for Good Jobs and High-Value Industries, was published by Cambridge University Press in November 2024 in the UK and Kindle and will be published in the US in January 2025 in hardcover. (Click on any of my books above to find out more about them.)
I was educated at Columbia and the University of Chicago. I am married, have a child, and live in San Francisco. Reach me at ianhfletcher@gmail.com.
